Fluxus had its beginnings in Europe during the 1950s. Fluxus was introduced
to America in 1962 by George Maciunas. One of the first fluxus exhibitions,
the "Fluxus International Festspiele", was put on in Wiesbaden, Germany
in September of 1962.
Some of the artists, performers and writers who were active in the early
days were; George Maciunas, Yoko Ono, Dick Higgins, Alison Knowles, Al
Hansen, Ken Friedman and Nam June Paik. Several others were involved with
fluxus but did not always call themselves fluxus artists such as Ray Johnson,
Allan Kaprow, and John Cage.
